“Museum Architecture” by Deborah Frieden- Distinguished Speaker Series, Arkansas Arts Center, September 22, 2016

On September 22nd, 2016, Deborah will be the featured speaker at the Arkansas Arts Center’s Distinguished Speaker Series. Her lecture will focus on the history of museums and their architecture, track key trends and explore the evolution of the museum as influenced by facility design. Museums and their architecture have always reflected the socio-economic and political environment of their times and new museum designs are no different. The lecture will seek to highlight key designers and contextual influences while highlighting the globalization and technological advances of recent years.

Keynote Speaker for Burning Man Global Leadership Conference

Deborah has been invited to speak as one of the keynote speakers at the Global Leadership Conference for Burning Man on April 10, 2015. The Conference theme is “The Next Creative Renaissance: Buildin’ it up, Bustin’ it Out, and Bringin’ it Home” aimed at inspiring civic engagement through art and community. The event will be attended by more than 400 members of the Burning Man Global Community from 25 countries. This year’s conference theme is “The Next Creative Renaissance: Buildin’ it up, Bustin’ it Out, and Bringin’ it Home” aimed at inspiring civic engagement through art and community. Deborah will speak on “Arts as Community Catalysts.”

WMA Conference “Playing the Numbers: Learning New Rules of Museum Finance”

Deborah will be speaking at the Western Museum Association meeting this fall on the financial aspects of capital project planning. Marjorie Schwarzer, Museum Studies Professor at University of San Francisco organized the panel and will moderate.

National Symposium on Arts/Cultural/Entertainment Districts

Deborah was a speaker and panel moderator for the “Arts as a Community Revitalization Strategy” session of the National Symposium on Arts/Cultural/Entertainment Districts held in conjunction with the Main Streets Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, sponsored by the Short North Arts District, April 2012. The conference was the first of its kind and was attended by city officials, arts advocacy groups, representatives from the NEA, community development organizations, state arts representatives from all across the U.S., as well as academics, researchers and artists.
